Pros

If you have a travel back ground the salary seems appealing

Cons

This company over promises and under delivers. All the stress of travel and none of the perks. Added stress of financial services management. Customers have “rich people problems” and don’t live in the real world. The declining value proposition of the product means more are unhappy. Stats are completely unachievable. The biggest con is the leadership. Powerless supervisors and middle management generally are not supportive of people and do not take feedback. There is a culture of burnout causing high sick leave meaning the staff are constantly supporting others work. I witnessed and experienced bullying, exclusion and victimisation from management. Unprofessional and personal attacks occur when someone senior to you does not like you as a person even if it is not related to stats. This place is a shambles and so poorly run which explains their high turnover and why they are always hiring. Not a single person I met there wasn’t overworked, stressed and hating life

Pros

Nice people to work with, pay was good, benefits were ok, and it was good when it was good! I worked there for several years and then new management made so really bad choices.

Cons

System tools issues constantly! It used to be Platinum card card was taken care of by just Platinum card agents and card members were taken care of nicely, then they merged everything with all card types except Centurion to be taken care of by those same platinum card agents! Bad move! Online should have stayed online for all other card types. The card member knew it! They were paying a high fee and not getting what they deserved! You can book on Expedia and get the same result, Online is Expedia. After seeing many people let go without warring it was time to go. It was a good place years back, but lots has changed shifting to outsource its services. Better to look for true brands that stick to what they do well. AMEX travel has changed, may not ever be the same, I heard this from countless customers. Just ask someone who has been a card member for years. They will tell you! Even the Pointsguy knows the quality has changed for this brand.

Pros

- You get a lot of free time while waiting on the approval from higher-ups, it typically takes 4-5 days for a response from a C-Suite or VP. - You don't need to keep up with the Isreal v. Palestine conflict because if anything negative happens to Israel, Mr. Squeri will send out a company-wide email condemning the actions against them or if like Henry Kissinger or a past AMEX C-Suite dies. - If you're a Staff Engineer or Director you can dip for two months & make the lower-level engineers deal with the summer intern.

Cons

- Multiple years worked here & he has yet to acknowledge anyone but the C-Suite's hard work. - Directors & Staff Engineers who have been at the company for 10+ years just coast. Routinely miss meetings, and lack the fundamental knowledge about the applications they've been managing. - Staff Engineers dip during summer for 40+ day vacations, perfectly timed with when summer interns show up so they don't have to deal with them. - 99% of your interactions as an engineer are with individuals in India who are sleep-deprived from working 7pm-7am as they're 12 hours ahead and yet, the CEO still pushes for a return to office. - Red tape around AI is a mess and should be reviewed/updated. It shouldn't take 2 months and 3 separate intake processes to run a single line of code that uses AI/ML. - Poor documentation on key processes like decommissioning an application or RFCs. 50/50 chance the Slack help chat person gaslights you or tells you you're in the wrong channel. - Very caste-like in that Staff Engineers consistently hand down their work to lower-level engineers & then take all the credit.
