Pros

Great work/life balance and everyone is very nice. The work can be rewarding and interesting. The company has a great reputation in the corporate world which is helpful when telling people where you work and applying for later jobs.

Cons

Because of the tendency towards "niceness", it can be difficult to understand what people really think and what is actually happening. All work is done by the managers and analysts - leaving a lot of time for many levels of "management" to talk about the work and change it around.

Pros

Work life balance in some groups. - Although even this is slowly changing as the company downsizes because of the economy. Culture of caring about employees. - by and large Collaborative environment.

Cons

Salary sucks. Enormous amount of politics. Passive Aggressive culture, people are very nice to you but scheming behind your back! Start paying more to your high performers to retain talent. Some parts of Amex are just full of people with rich spouses and they dont care too much for money. However the ambitious, smart and driven people are also not compensated well. This will hurt the company in the long term.

Pros

The culture supported: work life balance; family friendly(popular with moms especially). The prospect for growth: great place to learn the credit card business. The career trajectory: you can always go up, however, sometimes outsiders who have worked at reputable firms get an accelerated boost.

Cons

The company's business model is so strong that not much risk-taking or innovation is nurtured, nor is it required for success, since the company is essentially a well-oiled money printing machine on the scale of a large battleship.
