      Great place to work if you have a family

      Pros

      Very relaxed working environment, almost too relaxed. This is great if you have a family and constantly need to work from home like people in my team. If however you are a graduate and want to learn face-to-face, it is not a great place to begin your career.

      Cons

      Some managers have no idea how to delegate work and have no interest in your personal development. Everything seems like it takes too much effort and time for example booking onto a training course.

We encourage a flexible work policy designed to promote a healthy work/life balance, which is good for everyone, not just those with families! Most of the graduates I have met at ARM love the hands on experience and autonomy/trust that they are given. That said, others are more productive in a formal, structured environment, so it's a matter of determining what works best for you and your line manager. Communication is key between any employee and their line manager, so I highly encourage that you bring up your personal development with him/her in your next 1:1 session. They may not even realize what they are doing! I also recommend you to take a look at the Talent Development section on the ARM intranet, as that contains a wealth of information designed to help grow your career. -Rick C.       Great environment and lots of opportunities

      Pros

      ARM is a great company. Small groups and focused targets without management bloating. The environment is very constructive and laid back, while the projects and the day to day work is challanging and engaging. From what I can tell there are plenty of growth opportunities and the benefits are much better than any other company I worked for.

      Cons

      Depending on your role, you might need to travel internationally quite a bit.

      A wonderful history and a potentially very exciting future. Generally looked after exceptionally well, aside from continually running out of office space in Cambridge,

      Very mixed management capability. Sharp divide between engineers and muggles.

Have patience, as the new building space in Cambridge will be here before you know it. Managing employees is a skill that comes naturally to some people, but requires training for the majority of people. Even the best managers have room to improve, which is why we invest heavily in Talent Development. This is available to all employees across all locations, regardless of grade or function, and is supplemented by a subscription to Lynda.com, which all ARM employees have access to for free. ARM employs approximately 4:1 engineers to non-engineers, so I understand your concern for the divide. I've found that simply engaging with the engineering employees does wonders to bridge that gap. Remember, communication is key in any relationship, including amongst employees!
