Pros

Opportunity to work for large customers on highly complex and challenging projects.

Cons

Lack of real training (currently about 1k per person per year) only self study training available. No training on how to be a consultant, long hours and no bonuses for consultants. IBM has an incentive program based on individual performance and company success. In fact this will be the first company I've worked for where I don't participate in any type of incentive program.

Pros

After 6 years, it was a total waste! Low employee moral - Benefits...until they cut them so they can justify buying another company at the expense of their employees. Lots of travel unless they don't want you anymore, then they require you to MOVE

Cons

If you're white male or a contractor, life is good - Women & minorities are to be 'crushed' by management and goal aspirations smashed. Lots of travel unless they don't want you anymore, then they require you to MOVE. And how's those multiple discrimination charges working out for you

Pros

Great career advanement opportunities, alot of chances to meet new people, travel, learn new technologies, and new environments every project. You are never stuck to a single cubicle depending on how often you change projects. this is not a job that will be repetitive or lack challenges, there are always new problems that need to be solved, new people that need to be convinced, and new projects to hop onto. The higher ups really do keep an eye on your performance, so your hardwork will pay off and your rank will rise. Career advancement is not based on time stayed in one position, and is very dynamic.

Cons

long work hours, social life suffers from tight project timelines. Projects can drag on and on, and overtime is about every day if a project is due, you can bet that your weekend will be gone. Traveling can be a bit of a drag, depending on where you go and if you enjoy the sever overhead from your home to your work. If a project really likes you, you might get stuck there for a long long time. Once you "specialize" in a field, the company uses you as an expert, which makes it harder for you to seek out new tech to interact with, unless done on your own time. bench times staying at home can be less than motivating to work.
