Pros

We have a very flat organization structure. I feel comfortable sending an email or talking to anybody in the organization, from the CEO to entry-level employees. Our leadership group is very approachable. Compensation is very competitive. I feel as though I am well compensated. I can't speak for the benefits in countries outside the U.S., but the benefits in the U.S. are great. Ask about flexible benefits when you interview; they're a really cool feature! Excellent availability of the latest technology. You won't be working on computers that are obsolete, outdated operating systems, etc. Very flexible work environment, and very casual. You can come to work in jeans or a suit, and no one will care.

Cons

I can't think of any.

Pros

This is one of the best places to work if you are interested in creating solutions based on the Microsoft platform. Some of the most experienced and smartest people I have worked with are here at Avanade. There is also the added advantage of working on some of the most interesting and biggest projects out there based on the Microsoft platform, because of Avanade's unique relationship with Microsoft and Accenture. The people there have a great respect for each other, and are generally supportive. There is a lot of dedication to training, which is necessary in the world we live in now where Microsoft releases new technologies in what seems like every couple of seconds :) Compensation and benefits are reasonable, and they are more commited to keeping you local than most consulting companies, based of course on where you live. Management actually listens to employee suggestions and implements them

Cons

Compensation could be better since some of the best people at what I do are at the company. For me this is not a disadvantage: there is a hands-off management model here in general - some people work better if they are closely managed than others, even if they don't particularly like it. Also some of us like to travel quite a bit while we can (single folks with no kids) so the local work situation can be a double-edged sword. It seems though that the more senior you get, the greater the chances that you will be working out-of-town. This will be a big problem if your career track is similar to most folks: this might start happening just when you are getting ready to start a family

Pros

I am surrounded by very intelligent and talented coworkers. People are hired to do very specialized tasks and they are normally the best of the best.

Cons

This is a very political organization. One way to get ahead is to rub shoulders with the right people and many times, these employees get promotions. Some employees do not care about teamwork and just focus on their tasks. Personal performance is a key factor in one's promotion. This sometimes causes some employees to manipulate the situation by keeping key information from his/her team members to purposely make themselves look good. These said employees will backstab other coworkers and position themselves into their ideal position within the company.
