Pros

Barclays is a plc with work life balance and excellent benefits in terms of dental and car park services. The overall package to start work in Barclays are attractive as well. They emphasize on retaining staff and provide courses.

Cons

In Asia, most of the work in Barclays are processing jobs and this has limited value add to individual. Even for work mobility, there is limited areas which you can go to. Unless you are in your retiring mood or you are a parent who focus on balanced lifestyle, this is not a place for career advancement nor add value to your employability.

Pros

The firm is very client focused and is not being run like a giant casino out to game the system. The senior management is very focused on keeping communication lines with employees open.

Cons

I am part of the IT Graduate Analyst program and my person experience has been awful - there are 3, 6-month rotations you have to complete - irrespective of the fact that you have Master's degree or not and then once you get a permanent placement, there is just no word on when you will get elevated to the next title. I have great finance, math and programming background and was hoping to look for a role that would require a good mix of these skills. Unfortunately, anyone with an IT background is considered a third-rate citizen of the bank. IT people have to fill in time-sheets which I think is a gross and uncomfortable experience.

Pros

If you want a relaxed place, where to learn things by yourself, then go for it.

Cons

Low recognition for hard work and bright people. The compensation package is not competitive. A bit of ageism: if you are young, you cannot earn that much, unless you have been sitting on that chair for at least 7 years.
