Pros

The employees at BearingPoint are some of the most talented in their fields. Unfortunately, prior senior management did a poor job directing the company and the business model is not working.

Cons

Financial difficulties including significant debt and lack of profitability put the company's future in doubt.

Pros

As BE's a relatively young company, there are ample opportunities to help shape its internal and external direction. Leadership has been enthusiastic in its encouragement of employees at all levels to 'get involved' - in peer advising, mentoring, community volunteering, process improvement, and skill development programs. Despite BE's financial troubles, it's managed to recruit stellar talent and the engagement teams w/ whom I've work reflect passion, dedication and a diverse group of professionals ready to grow in their careers while making a difference. In short: the company will probably be bankrupt by week's end (mid Feburary), but it's got solid work across every major commercial and federal sector that's not going away. For those interested in taking the reigns and driving change, there are opportunities aplenty.

Cons

There's very little continuity across leadership in how Managing Directors (MDs) stay connected w/ their account teams (who, by nature of consulting, are on site w/ their clients). The result is that some accounts have clear cut transparency across initiatives and opportunities, while others risk becoming isolated/stove piped w/out much reach back to corporate BE.

Pros

Good work gets recognized. Also, the company has a very flat hierarchy so lots of contact, mentoring from most MD's. Also, when my wife and I had our first child, the firm was terrific at making sure I had enough time away from projects to focus on family.

Cons

Can be difficult to move across projects. Projects tend to be of longer duration than at other firms (4 - 10 months typical). This makes it tough to build a broad base of experience unless you've spent significant time at the firm. Also, the commercial side of BE's consulting suffered serious damage when the company restated earnings a few years ago. As it stands, the public practice is really the only part of the firm that is considered competetive.
