Pros

The right people (management's choice) can get project leadership experience right out of school. A great opportunity for some. If you have family and friends you want to stay close to in Mississippi, this is a possibility. A few employees have a significant other attending the local university. Management is understanding of family life. Parents are very happy with the flexibility offered and are able to pick kids up from school and even bring them in on vacation days.

Cons

Unreliable employment: Spring 2008 graduates hired in June were all laid off in September. If you have an H1 visa, it is terminated the day after lay off. The consultants are a level of abstraction between the software you're writing and the end user that can be a frustrating logjam for communication. It can be quite difficult to attain an understanding of the software, leading to incorrect implementations. Lots of pressure to charge to your project (even if not assigned work on your project) If you are not one of the "right people", you will not get much experience or opportunity for advancement. Some of the most talented, productive individuals were not adequately compensated. Very few experienced developers, and they are overworked. Most only have a year or two under their belt and do not have tried and tested methods of development. This means no mentors. They do not have the funds to compensate employees.

Pros

Constant new opportunities as you move from engagement to engagement, lots of travel, meet lots of people in various industries. Be careful though to never irritate anyone above you, or they will exclude you from future engagements regardless of your qualifications for the position.

Cons

constant travel, no stability from engagement to engagement (you must have friends that will staff you on the next engagement to be utilized), must keep yourself current with no help from management, constant threat to lose job. Must maintain your personal network to stay staffed and therefore employed, the resource managers are useless. If they run out of projects with your skill set, you're done and on the street.

Pros

Work and life balance is one of the most positive things at BE. Time off is easily granted for family emergencies as well as planned vacation. ANother great reason to work at BE is the Performance managers and Managing Directors have an open door to discuss any topics. I would have to admit there are a lot of opportunities at BE that allow employees to gain knowledge and expirence with different and new clients and projects. Many BearingPoint Engagement managers allow employees on a project to drive their own hours, as long as the complete their deliverables while staying focused on their other responsibilities.

Cons

It's hard to receive big raises even though you performed at a very high level. Reviews are only completed once a year and raises have been minimal the past couple of years. Bonues are hard to come by unless you have senior management in corner. As for projects, it's tough to be on a project that you really want to be on. Currently, bench time is considered taboo and many employees have to find a project to jump on wether it would help their career or not. Needless to say, there are many people staffed on projects that would not benefit one's career.
