Pros

Fast-paced environment. You never watch the clock as your shift/day flies by. If you like electronics and innovation, it's a very cool place to work. Fair pay, great benefits, loads of opportunity for advancement and career growth. The staff discount (cost plus 10) is decent although the costs that Best Buy reports are a false way of controlling this.

Cons

District team states we are behaviour driven and results oriented yet we track every key sale statistic every 1/2 hour in a binder? DM only cares about PSP (warranty) and holds sales calls weekly to focus solely on this! Some stores simply inboard the PSP to make themselves look good and everyone knows it including the DM but he turns a blind eye as it makes him look better. Show some integrity (1 of our values) and call people out for Gross Margin abuse. Managers are not allowed to "hide" in the office and need to be on floor all the time to avoid criticism from district team. I need time to plan, meet with people, complete all the paperwork expectations, email requirments etc. A GM should be able to wear a nice oxfrod style shirt and manage the business like a DM does when he comes in. Not have to spend 100% of their time showing customers where DVD's are and answering compaints about our warranty (#1 issue).

Pros

Being a student in High School, the pay I receive for a part-time job is great compared to other students I know. Also there is always a large number of employees that you get to meet that are around the same age group if not a bit older. The managers for the most part are nice and considerate to their peers and the employees there. The discounts we get are also pretty good.

Cons

When I first started the place looked like a great place to work. However after an amount of time they start hammering you down with more and more responsibilities especially during the holiday season. And at times the managers can get a bit naggy about what you sell and don't sell to customers especially due to the current economic status. Another downfall is that it cuts into your personal life a lot of times since you may work a lot of long shifts.

Pros

Benefits, and employee pricing. Opportunities to advance knowledge through Vendor partnerships.

Cons

Management is usually a job decided by how well you party, they also misrepresent their enthusiasm about selling service plans and services. Managers get a bonus if monthly goals are met where line-level employees don't receive any reward for meeting monthly sales goals. Also Geek Squad is very unknowledgeable and typically uncertified. A job as a Geek Squad technician should definitely require some sort of certification.
