Pros

For me, Finding a stable job in the state of our society and economy is rough, especially without some type of college education AND trying to make it on your own. I had three interviews with Best Buy for a new store opening, and was hired on my second interview. They have provided me with Full-Time Status and a decent starting salary AND benefits. My co-workers are amazing and every day I leave my job feeling better than I did when I went to it. Management is really great about recognizing your hard work, and if there is something you would like to improve on they are at your side helping you out. Alot of my co-workers started out at Best Buy knowing nothing about the department they were hired for, and over the weeks and months of training have developed so much knowledge not only about they specific products we offer, but also about people and how each person is looking for a specific type of experience. The values that Best Buy instills on their employees are values you can use in your personal life to help you see the glass half-full when your having a half-empty kind of day. And also, everything Best Buy can teach you will not only help you move up quickly in the company if you work hard, but also if you decide to move onto different projects or careers. I love my job, my co-workers, and I especially love knowing that even if my customer doesn't leave buying something-they have learned a little bit more about a product then they wouldn't have otherwise known.

Cons

In some departments, morning shifts can start as early as 6am, and other departments end as late as Midnight. But depending on what type of "person" you are, Best Buy is pretty flexible about scheduling you during the morning or evening if you prefer. For instance, I have recently been scheduled mostly morning shifts when I am definately NOT a morning person, and working in the morning affects my performance in my Job. Management almost immediately (within a few days of working mornings) recognized the deterioration of my performance in the mornings, and without condemning me for not working hard enough-talked to me about it and immediately switched me to all evening shifts- with of course, the occasional coverage of mornings.

Pros

Best Buy supports its employees and provides many opportunities for them to advance their career. Most don’t take advantage of these opportunities. With hard work, career success can be achieved. Innovate ideas will get the support they require if an employee has the passion to drive them and show how they benefit the company and customers. The best reason to work for Best Buy is its unique culture. The company truly lives its values and core philosophies. If they do not resonate with you, don’t apply to work there. Best Buy also has a very relaxed and casual atmosphere which fosters collaboration.

Cons

Like with most companies, ideas and successes can get stolen. Employees need to protect their work and ideas from credit thieves. I have heard working in the field is tough. I don’t think the corporate headquarters does a very good job of communicating its reasoning behinds its actions to the field. Likewise, I don’t think the field sees the bigger picture. I’ve heard sale reps positions in stores don’t pay much but are higher than the industry average. Well, I guess that’s a start. I think field employees should get paid more. They have to deal with the public everyday. That is challenging.

Pros

Fun employees and the discount. I have some of the best times (and worst) while working at Best Buy. I have made several friends and formed many relationships with the employees in my store.

Cons

Not flexible with scheduling. No incentives to work harder (non-managment level employees.) Zero support from other departments within the store. There is a high expectation of Geek Squad agents and we receive no support from anyone else. They expect us to answer phones, yield other departments questions, work the front counter, sell on the sales floor, setup new PC's and somehow fix old PC's for our existing customers...all with a staff of 2-3 employees per shift.
