Pros

Highly motivated and intellectually curious colleagues who challenge one another to excel; Good compensation packages; Incredible support staff; Top-tier clients with interesting business challenges to work on

Cons

Training is meant to be achieved through on-the-job apprenticeship, but one's ability to get a good quality, productive apprenticeship is at the mercy of the nature of the case one is assigned to and the personality / time availability of one's manager on the case. Sometimes a new consultant gets a very good case and good manager who has time for apprenticeship, which sets one up for success; and sometimes a new consultant does not, which can immediately impact one's performance and the breadth of opportunities available going forward.

Pros

-Intelligent coworkers - Ample compensation - Great health benefits - Career opportunities and experiences for some - More exposure and autonomy than many jobs will afford you - Invaluable connections

Cons

- Can't have much of a life outside of work b/c long hours are compounded by unpredictable work schedules and travel - The politics of the staffing system in Dallas prioritizes alliances and perception as much as, if not more than, actual work product - Relatedly, widely variant outcomes for quality of case experience depending on the individual; not everyone is given an equal chance to succeed, and individual fate can be based on subjective factors - Women are disadvantaged both because of the low numbers of women in the South and bc of the presiding culture in the Dallas office
