Pros

- High calibre people and leadership - High professional standards - Great perks such as team dinners and 5*star travel - Exit options and recognition as a BCG alumnus

Cons

- Long hours and difficult to manage expectations - Culture is low on empathy, trust and friendliness - High stress levels, constant up-or-out reviews, constant criticism - Career progression is highly competitive and accessible to selected few - Very few people "make it" and it requires having the "magic sauce", which is combination of socialialabity, political manipulation skills, witts, and stealth - Most people leave after a few years for good reasons - Unless you make it to partner the pay-per-hour is below par - After a few years it becomes difficult to relate to normal people, and you might need to ask them to write a bullet point executive summary for you :)

Pros

Beautiful office, smart people, generous perks

Cons

My manager was very condescending to me as a new comer, constantly micromanaging, as though I was incapable of doing anything that I actually got hired for. BCG supposedly promotes free, independent thinking, but, my manager made it arrogantly clear, I needed to get feedback on everything, no matter how simple the task. All or any positive feedback from my MDP's was met with heavy skepticism. When I was invited by one of my MDPs to travel with the case team for an offsite, my manager said "Why would BCG pay for that? We don't need you there..." Followed by, something to the effect of "you're new, why would you think you can go?" I felt like my manager would find a way to sabotage any opportunity for growth that was presented to me. I didn't feel comfortable succeeding, because my success wouldn't be mutually celebrated.
