      Pros

      No pros anymore. They may once have been able to call themselve a world leader in English teaching. Today, that claim rings hollow.

      Cons

      The British Council is no longer fit for purpose and should close. Its teaching operation, once a genuine source of UK soft power, now damages the reputation it claims to protect. For years it has traded on past glories while pushing out experienced staff and bringing in consultants with quick fixes, workshops and “magic pill” solutions. They diagnose problems, then leave others to live with the consequences.
