Pros

Working overseas was really rewarding, with opportunities to develop very broad and challenging partnerships and programmes. Although salary is low there are benefits that almost double the compensation (housing, allowances, etc).

Cons

Returning to UK (which in inevitable at some stage) your seniority, autonomy and pay more than halves. It’s rife with bureaucracy and senior management unable to take decisions. Progression is opaque and dominated by nepotism, and there are no opportunities for development. The organization doesn’t live by the values it claims to represent. Recent changes mean overseas careers have been totally hollowed out.
