What it could be vs what it is

Pros

Some amazing and inspirational people working across the world and in the UK making a real difference to people's lives through the various cultural programmes and projects. (Sadly none of these people are in the most senior positions.) If you're in a good team with good managers, you can have a very rewarding career experience. Some good practices around flexible working, Good annual leave in UK. Very patchy on salaries - bands are supposed to group similar levels of role responsibility but the reality is those appointed externally get £££££ more than those who are internal applicants, this also means that people coming in doing the same job as someone else also get ££££££ more.

Cons

No senior leadership. No strategy or direction. Career success depends who you know and if you're liked. Lots of ineptitude and lack of experience leading to really chaotic decision making.

Pros

Working overseas. Reasonably secure contract. Industry prestige.

Cons

Poor professional development. Budget cutting by creating 'co-ordinators' to do the work of senior teachers (without financial recompense).
