Pros

Wonderful co-workers. Some of the smartest people in the world work here! Teams vary, but the majority of them from my experience are very friendly and working together to innovate. Benefits are pretty good. They try to keep them on-par with comparable companies. 401k match is pretty low, but medical is good. Work/life balance is nice. I am able to work from home when needed provided I am getting my work done. This is as it should be.

Cons

Cost-cutting measures end up costing more than they cut (in terms of man-hours and employee morale). Cares more about stock price than anything. New head of HR has been taking real steps to turn this attitude around and try to engage employees and work towards solutions. With the recent buyout by Avago, and looking at their reviews here, I see her efforts may be wasted. I hope that is not the case. Morale has been taking constant hits due to layoff after layoff (previous acquisitions) and now more seem to be looming with the recent Avago deal. We've lost a lot of good people to competitors this past year or so.

Pros

The associates (most) are great people to work with.

Cons

It is a place that is managed through intimidation. Managers try and pit employees against each other. There is no doing “what’s right or best for the company”, more a power struggle between departments. There is a layer of management (Directors) that have been in power for too long. The swear and degrade employees to the point of tears. At Broadcom it’s all about lining the pockets of the executives, nothing else matters.

Pros

The pay is fair. It actually pays average people too much and not enough for high performers. The work-life balance is really different from group to group. Promotion opportunities are good, if you like a fancier title every couple of years.

Cons

No accountability for upper management. They screwed up so many key decisions but the people should be fired are still up there making ridiculous amount of money. Vacation policy is ridiculous. You supposedly can request unlimited vacation each year. But if you are a responsible person care about the projects you are working on, you would not get any because you do not have time to take vacation.
