Pros

The only good thing about working in Broadcom used to be the free dinners (some days of the week) and unlimited drinks that were offered till early 2008. I really canâ??t think of anything else that excites me in this company anymore. At the time of hiring the managers make u believe that this is the best company to work for...more than 4 years and I am still searching where the goodies are hidden!! All my selfish needs set aside, Broadcom is doing a great job as far as innovation, marketing and investing in the right technology is concerned. Broadcom has all the talent and the right tools and opportunities to take the market away from the competitors. Has a great potential as a company and I wonâ??t be surprised if it goes on to be one of the top companies in US in a decade or so.

Cons

Worst compensation, Worst benefits, and Worst working environment. The 401K plan really sucks. Some Engineers with less or same skills get more salary , bonuses/RSUs and get promoted earlier than some others just because they are in a different group or department or even sometimes under a different manager. There is absolutely no fairness in the annual reviews and the annual compensation adjustments. No growth opportunities. No promotions and if you are on H1B visa be prepared to be exploited to the max. The work environment is very unhealthy. Almost every employee complains about working too hard for long hours and not getting rewarded. Managers will sometimes force you to come over the weekends to cover up their mess. If you are a HW engineer you are in the best seat in the company however if you are in software you will curse yourself for not having taken those HW courses when you were in Grad school, the SW engineers are treated like trash and compensation difference is huge. Higher management takes all the credit for every successful project while as the work force behind the whole project does not even get an appreciation email. Rewards are first pocketed by the upper management and most often the cuts are handed over to the lower employees. Itâ??s a shame that even after having more than $2 Billion in cash and so much growth in the company over the past 5 or 6 years the employees have not seen any rewards. The top management gets millions for not doing anything or rather for looking good in their designer suits and ties and the Engineers working on the real projects and the reason behind Broadcomâ??s success are told that times are tough so cut down.

Pros

Good Technology and leader in many fields Some smart people around Tough and smart high level management that listens to all levels, communicates well and keeps direction well.

Cons

Big discrepancies in title/$ vs. competency/knowledge between different offices. Bad or "not up to the task" mid and low level management. Actual $/hour is low due to lots of overtime and $US salaries vs. $CAD is not comparison at all. Bad formal communication that leads to lots of inefficiencies and wasted time. Good people are not regarded for doing things smarter, but rather for "hard work&go with the flow". In many cases project milestones are scheduled unrealistically and the ones who miss-manage it do not pay the price, but the ones who have "know how" pay with overtime. So, deadlines are missed often and key saviors are not rewarded later (maybe that is typical in many companies, although I will never stop expecting better)
