      Pros

      Challenging environment, have to deal with some of the smartest people on the earth, yet with the obligation to deliver result. A good middle point between academia and industry. Requires a high level of autonomy and self management. Valuable contributions are in general well recognized in a healthy competitive environment.

      Cons

      It's hard to get an indefinite contract. Staff members are out of any country social system, (yet part of CERN's internal social system) therefore it is necessary to think carefully at own's future in time.

      Pros

      Very dynamic and challenging environment THE place to be in high energy physics at the moment. On site residence allows one to fully profit from the informal decision making structure and the joys of living in Geneva

      Cons

      The large experiments have very large bureaucracies which can be frustrating and demotivating. Opportunities within the field are very limited and most people will have to look for jobs outside physics at some point in their career. More senior people should consider doing this instead of applying for a cern position.

      Pros

      Great international atmosphere and amazing people around, many colleagues were the best in the World in their field. Compensation, even for interns, are really good. Switzerland is a great country to work and live!

      Cons

      Processes are a little bit bureaucratic, but it makes sense if we consider the size and nature of the organization.
