Pros

Employees receive standard benefits, but there’s little that sets them apart from other companies.

Cons

Unfortunately, Canva lacks a positive and supportive company culture. There is little emphasis on teamwork, employee morale, or fostering a collaborative environment. Communication among departments feels strained, and management seems disconnected from addressing the core issues affecting staff. This has resulted in low employee engagement and a challenging workplace atmosphere.

Cons

Though working for canva is quite an experience and something that I am proud of to put in my CV but just like any organization there a lot of red flags that can be improved on 1. Finance Leadership Finance leadership has so much to improve on. They lack direction, transparency, and leadership skills to properly support the team. They have set such a high expectation from them but never really showed any support or initiative to ensure success in the team. Though the numbers in our employee survey has showed consistency in declining team morale they are in denial of it and did nothing to address these issues. The only move they made is re-education of total rewards and compensation which pretty much did nothing to boost our morale. They still believe up to now that sending out kudos is the best way to acknowledge one’s hard work. To make things worse they revamped the way they rate employees - making it close to impossible to reach above meets expectations (thriving) with the explanation of: “we expect you to go above and beyond your work so doing so will only credit you a meets expectation (thriving)” The employee rating system is very subjective as well leaving employees no means to protect themselves from the biases of the leads. Finance leadership always like to implement changes that lacks foresight and planning only for the people under to take the bullet and adjust accordingly. 2. Career growth and direction If you’re going to work for canva be ready to be stagnant in your career because growth and development is very vague in this organization. You will either outgrow your position and look for a new one after a year or two or you will see yourself trapped in your comfort zone and just locked in there until you are pushed out by the leadership. 3. Office politics In relation to career growth office politics is a huge part of your career in canva. The only way to move up the ranks is to ensure that you have the right people rallying and advocating for you - if you have the unfortunate luck of having a coach who doesn’t care about you forget thinking about getting promoted. Even when you’re slated for promotion if someone from other department can simply block it. 4. People team are not your friend The adage HR is not your friend can never be more true here as they are always in the lookout for employees who voice out any concerns against company decisions or moves. Be warned when working with canva make sure that you keep your opinion to yourself.

Pros

Nothing outweighs the cons, except for perhaps a small handful of good people.

Cons

Everything. Just don't accept a job here. It looks amazing from the outside but the real except is anything but. RUN.
