Good place to earn a paycheck, not so good for developing career and skills
Pros
Flexible schedule, can work from home or remotely Good work life balance Stable, no pay cut during the economic crisis Overall friendly co-workers (provided that you are careful enough not to step on people's toes)
Cons
Very political, people try to complete small "why not" projects that does not really offer any benefit to the business and talk it up in order to get recognized. Out of the box ideas get shut down immediately b/c it won't be approved due to all the complicated politics. Everybody learned to play safe and there's virtually no innovation in the company. Pay raises and career advancement hard to come by. Horizontal movement is encouraged but again, it's mostly horizontal with same boring work. Promotion largely depends on whether your manager likes you, and also, whether your manager is liked by his manager (You can work towards the former but very hard to control the latter, so good luck!)
