Pros

In some aspects, Cisco is a great company and a stable paycheck. Kind of like IBM of the 70's and 80's. . SOME great people who really do care. Great products and technology that customers want to buy. Solid market leadership in key areas and markets. Great vision and OK execution.

Cons

Some sales commit calls can be like a scene straight out of Glengarry, Glen Ross. Work, Work, Work 24/7/365. I was on the phone with my boss on Christmas morning dealing with a customer issue. It never ends, and the overly complicated processes that the company has in place slows productivity down incredibly, especially on the Services side. Career advancement is practically non-existent. If you're content with being a cog in the machine, you'll do fine. If yo'd like to advance your career, expect to make lateral moves annually but any true advancement usually comes at 8-10 years of service if you're lucky.

Pros

The three things I liked best about working at Cisco were: *The people *The products *The freedom to try new things

Cons

Cisco is a large company and faces the challenges that all large companies do. However, even more than most, it is a highly decentralized decision-making culture that relies heavily on collaboration and compromise to get things done. While this often pushes decision making authority down farther into the company (pro), it also necessitates a lot of meetings and constant internal negotiations which slow down many projects.
