Pros

- Competitive pay - Name recognition - Established company so it's expected it will be around awhile - Room for climbing the corporate ladder

Cons

- Layoffs are always looming over everyone's heads, so morale is low - No loyalty to their long time employees, they will lay off better workers and keep the ones that everyone wonders why/how they still have a job there. Seemingly arbitrary. - Company is way too big, you'll always feel like a number - Sketchy leadership in some divisions - They buy companies doing great things and then lay off the teams that made them that way and water down the product. I know it sounds like I am a scorned employee who was laid off, but I wasn't, I was just appalled at how others fared in these quarterly chopping blocks. I left of my own accord for a better work environment and it was one of the better decisions I've ever made.

Pros

I can use their computer to look for other jobs.

Cons

It's the worst job I have ever had. I joined this company and was told promotions come quickly for those that excel. I worked my tail off, came in early, and left late for 3 years. and when I finally get the lousy pay increase. I find out that everyone was promoted, even the new guys that know very little.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on your personal experience. While we strive for a conscious culture that embraces value and difference of opinion, we understand that it will take time for all teams to have a similar experience. Glassdoor is one of the ways to share feedback. There are also many other ways to share concerns internally with our leadership and HR teams who will address this firmly while also being compassionate.

Pros

Accumulated stock awards are attractive if you are at the Principal Engineer/Director level

Cons

Two years on from my departure and I still struggle to identify anything remotely positive about Cisco beyond staying for share options. Continual, stealth headcount reductions after each quarter's results have gradually removed those with the energy and creativity that Cisco desperately needs to reinvent itself. For those early-in-career, I'm not convinced that having Cisco on the resume/CV helps. My experience is it can hinder you when applying to new roles as you are tarred with having worked in a slow-moving, behemoth company rather than a fast-moving agile start-up. Let's face it - this is a company that should have owned the whole videoconference market in the wake of COVID-19 via WebEx yet it is Zoom that has stolen both the zeitgeist and the market. That should be enough for the Board to call for Chuck to step down and for them to bring in a visionary technology leader rather than yet another senior salesperson with a strategy that only looks 2 quarters out in a vain attempt to keep Wall St happy...
