Pros

Flexible timings and WFH. Cutting edge routers and optical technology. You can brag about the work and product impact.Market leaders currently.

Cons

Bad management.unrealistic pressures and expectations.groupism.manager maintains a pet group under him . If u are not in the group no matter what good work you do gets unnoticed.customers are too touchy and literally blackmail openly about cancelling orders if some trivial bug is not fixed within time. This shakes up the whole management structure from director to apply pressure and get work done no matter what. It's ruthless .Software tools are open source and very difficult to debug as debug infra is not taken seriously. No hikes at all.Promotions only if you are in the above pet group

This sounds like an uncommon situation and we're sorry to hear about your concerns. Seeing you are a current employee, we encourage you to reach out to HR about your concerns, and/or look into different roles at Cisco--we can guarantee that most teams are not like this!

Pros

Salaries are high for Ottawa.

Cons

Command and control is awful. They have an elitist technical leadership system, where who you are is way more important than how good your idea/knowledge is. All technical decisions are centralized with the elite, who reside in San Jose.

Pros

Great Benefits High Pay Work from home Friendly People

Cons

Lack of control over anything that you do. "Architect" teams in the marketing department make all decisions and promises without consulting the engineers. Due to management structure, these decisions cannot be appealed. As an intern, I was put on a team that was in no way prepared to take on an intern. They had great difficulty giving me anything to do. The one real project I had took me 3 weeks, after that, despite asking for more work I was barely given anything to do. My entire team was very upset with management and the decisions being made, but was powerless to even voice these opinions. Satellite locations get overlooked a lot. You are a second class employee if you're anywhere but San Jose. I saw multiple instances of people being hired as developers and then being placed into a sysadmin job under the guise of devopts. Oh yeah, and they're laying off 20% of their workforce.

Thank you for your review. Your comments about the management structure within the team sounds concerning and we will look for ways to address this as it is not the experience we would want our people to have especially for young talent such as our interns. We are addressing the issues with layoffs, but as you know the environment is changing and layoffs are sometimes a part of this change. We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback.
