Pros

Stable place to work - except for the current layoffs. (Many more layoffs than are publicly announced BTW!)

Cons

I could go on for a long time but a quick summary is no chance for career advancement based on merit, effort, and results. That pretty much sucks the life out of your achievers and innovators now doesn't it. The company prefers to "buy" it's way in to new markets rather than doing something inspiring. Cisco's future is like Microsoft's present. (Wouldn't you rather work for a company like Apple?)

Pros

Cisco ,the old brand name adds some value to job profile. Learn new technologies by chance of any new acquisitions since most new technologies and good selling prodcuts are acquired by cisco. Learn how to make things more complex. Having fun around compromising your work experience

Cons

Ridiculous manangement that have a philososphy of working to add an entry in performance review and not for the necessity. All happens in the name of process and no wonder if it doesnt happen at all :-D You can think about promotions in dream, oppurtunities in words. Full politics and no recognition for deserving candidates. Almost worst outsourced services like HR ,Work place resources, etc for employees. All happens in the name of process and no wonder if it doesnt happen at all :-D To say it simple, you can be recognised as a fool if you stay long. If more than that if you wish to take a chance then its your fate!

Pros

Since working for Cisco after graduating my growth has been tremendous. Cisco is a place where there are many experts you can learn from and gain experience especially if you're like me, someone out of school two years.

Cons

Promotions are slow and its difficult to get recognition. I am lucky in that my manager and I have a good working dialogue and I know he is listening to my concerns. If you're ambitious and damn good at your job, you'll start to feel frustrated often at Cisco. Reason being promotions are slow and those who are the lowest performers are rewarded by keeping their job and those who are worth their salt aren't promoted fast enough. Of course, I'm sure this is common with large companies. In my opinion, Cisco needs to recognize fresh talent quickly, give them (me) opportunities to grow and responsibilities, and promote them quickly.
