Pros

Big company and the industry leader. Overall pretty stable, though there have been annual 5-10% layoffs in the summer for the last few years.

Cons

Pay is low for the effort, raises are meager. Employees are asked to meet ridiculously tight deadlines even if it means working 50-60 hours a week for multiple weeks. Work life balance is absent - employees are expected/required to be available in the weekday nights and weekends. Management comes across as self-centered and high handed. Growth/career advancement opportunities are minimal - those who are good at office politics get promoted, hard work isn't recognized as it should be. The culture leaves a lot to be desired - in my years here, I have come across a lot of rude and curt colleagues at the company. There should be more open dialogue/transfer of information between the management and the team.

I'm sorry to hear your concerns. Cisco does offer competitive pay, along with a generous benefits package. As a global company it is sometimes required to meet at odd hours, in curtesy of our clients and team members around the world. This is why we offer flexible hours, so that you can plan your day accordingly.

Thank you for your review. We do have a lot of great benefits, and have also undergone some great changes. As with any change, it's going to be hard at first, but with our employees patients and help, we will only improve.

Pros

Compensation, flexible work schedule, and travel.

Cons

Aspiring marketing professionals in college, do NOT make the mistake of starting off your career in Cisco. I was lured by the great salary, tales of a terrific culture, and the promise that Cisco would help me continue learning and growing as a marketer. The salary was great, but everything else was a lie. It is important to remember that Cisco, especially the marketing department, largely consists of middle-aged to older people who are already settled in their lives (kids, marriage, finances, etc). As a young, unattached professional, you are at a career advantage where you have the time to 1)Go physically into work and develop real one-on-one relationships with colleagues. 2)Devote time after work to networking with other tech marketing individuals. 3) Work with other young people who are more willing to take the financial risk and devote time to develop a start up. Cisco culture assists those who want a "work-life" balance which is great for those who are more settled in life. For those who still want to do something crazy and change the paradigm, Cisco is not the place to do it.

We completely understand that Cisco's culture is not for everyone, however, this doesn't make it a bad culture. We do offer the Early in Career Network for employees starting their career at Cisco, and it's a great way to network both during business hours, and after work!
