Pros

Clean work environment and new computers/facilities. Gym and good cafeteria on site. People are generally nice. Appears to be stable for now.

Cons

When the site opened a few years ago, there were more quality jobs available than supply in the Buffalo labor market. They naturally decided to fill higher level positions first based on the applicants at that time. In many cases, these positions were filled with weaker talent. As better qualified applicants applied to Citi, they were positioned under the weaker talent. Now there are many people reporting to people who are less capable, have less experience and are less effective than themselves. Changing jobs is very difficult. Recently finance brought in 17 new jobs. The management positions were filled by simply taking the "next person in line" who fell under the senior manager. They were not open to current workers on the floor. All departments work within silos. Communication is minimal. Morale is weak. Arrogant Management In finance, very high workload for experienced non-managers. Promotions for year-end 2009 appeared to be based on seniority only. Also, those who complained the most about deserving a promotion got one. Organizational structure rolls up through New York separately through each department. It does not roll up to Senior Management team at site. Many departments do employee reviews based on money available for small bonuses and promotions. They determine these things first and then back value the reviews to fit the budget. Very political and bureaucratic.

Pros

Citi is a place to learn the craft of banking, within whatever profession one works in, for me, I became both an executive and a talented architect for technology while I was there. It has a smart work force, all dedicated to doing a good job. It has sufficient power in the world, so that a person can build a great external network.

Cons

It suffers great paternalistic centralized control, which leads to an arrogance in which the best ideas from below, and from the regions are not given sufficient weight. This leads to frustration in the work force, poor results for the business, and great nepotism in the work place. Most folks I know at citi are simply getting a pay check, hoping things will get better.
