Pros

Decent staff discount on payday weekend. Met some good colleagues

Cons

Dreadful work environment. Bullies in management. Shops run with only 2 staff on shift for full shifts. Never get full breaks yet had them taken from pay. Was physically assaulted several times but never had any sort of help. Constantly told the Co op is ethical and all sorts of nonsense when in reality they won't even look after their own staff. Expected to police shop in rough area with no security guards and chastised if thieves were getting away with stock. No time to do tasks set for you. They make out its very inclusive, which it is if you're gay or lesbian. As a straight male I was actually very isolated. Their were only 2 of us in a shop of about 25. Some of the comments I received from both gay males and females were very sexually discriminative at times or even sexually abusive to a degree but I didn't feel able to raise any sort of concern. I booked a few days off for my daughters birthday(fully signed off) and ended up having to work it and was told 'their was nothing that could be done' so missed her party. I felt like I had to come in. This is the type of grip they have on their employees. It's absurd

Pros

- flexibility - autonomy to shape roles and develop strategies - genuinely cares about personal wellbeing - breadth of exposure to sectors and varied careers - community centric ethos of business

Cons

- constantly changing and restructuring means progress and impact is very slow - genuine ambition to deliver on community and inclusion commitments to be questioned - has fostered a 'mates club' at SLT level, and have employed toxic leaders in recent times including HRD - pay is not in line with market
