Pros

I AM NO LONGER WORKING FOR COGNIZANT.

Cons

Too many to mention, but here goes: they over-work each consultant, with very little pay for the level of work being demanded. They do not give you an opportunity to adapt to the culture of the company. They use you as a body shop as they do not have their own projects. Managers only care about receiving client revenue, and do not even care about the individual working on the project, earning them that money. Cognizant have a HIRE AND FIRE mentality. They use you until the project is underway, and then hire cheaper offshore labour. Their UK HR department is a JOKE! Don't expect any respect or appreciation of industry HR rules. There is no work-life balance at all, so don't expect to see your family, if you work here.

It's all who you know

Pros

This is a big company with many legacy companies and platforms under its brand. It's easy to have a good experience, and it's easy to be over worked, under paid, and miserable. I was at TriZetto long enough to experience good leadership, career growth, poor leadership and career stagnation. If you have a well connected manager who is in the good graces of the leadership (Jude + CTS), you and your team will do well. If you (or your management) is in the crosshairs, your boss will be miserable and constantly taken to task, and that will have a downstream impact on you.

Cons

Much of mid/senior (VP/SVP) leadership is a textbook case of the Peter Principle. Very expert but narrow understanding of the market, little/no strong management or mentoring capacity. Some verticals have leadership that is a fraternity culture on a good day. Others are professional slide jockeys and have not brought a dime into the company while creating significant distraction. Work/life balance is terrible. However, comp is decent in many areas. Negotiate a high starting salary- they can afford it and you'll never get it as a raise. I left because I had a bruise from beating my head against a brick wall.

A glorified Call centre

Pros

Good benefits like BKK cards, OTP and Erzsébet cards. Clean and well maintained office.

Cons

1 No good projects. All are call center like L1 support projects that offer little scope for career advancement. 2 The company's Indian offices have become flabby overtime with a large tranche of mediocre middle managers. Most of the company decisions come from there. These guys just know to talk fancy jargon and give speeches about strategy but have little or no competence implementing them. They are also extremely clannish and seem to protect and promote their own people. 3 Lazy junior HRs who are incompetent and do not care for the employees. 4 Onsite travel opportunities provided only for sycophants and yes men and not to people who actually work. 5 Useless people enter the company through referrals. Some of them are so bad that it surprises how they got past the HR screening. All in all, it is not recommended to stay in this company for more than 2 years. A good place to start if you are a fresher just out of college looking to make some money, but not good in the long run.
