Pros

I worked with the best people. My local management team were fantastic people, I miss them.

Cons

The cons are many, where to start? - risk averse to the point where it threatens the company's future - monotonous; actual career growth opportunities were few and far between for technical leaders - dense HR; they couldn't adjust to a high inflation environment at a time unemployment in the engineering workforce was at an all time low. The data was there but you didn't listen to it. -digital technology assets were poorly configured, poorly maintained, and too infrequently updated. I spent the last year of my time at Collins fighting with a computer that didn't work properly and a DT organization that didn't care. - promotion timelines were never clear; all of the vagueness and ambiguity convinced me that I was giving Collins my most productive years with nothing in it for me. If you want to be a great engineer, if you want to have an exciting career, this isn't the place.

Good people - slow business

Pros

- Has some very talented engineers, most of whom keep the business competitive. - Working conditions are good and the people are friendly - Facilities are great and remote work is an option - Located in a great area of the UK - Opportunities to travel to interesting places

Cons

- Large, slow and mostly uninteresting projects, with an extreme amount of time put in to admin where it should and could be spent on engineering a better product. - The interesting projects are mostly too small to warrant larger teams, and these projects are always given to the same people. - No opportunity for progression - A severe lack of interest or understanding from immediate and upper management as to who brings value to projects, and who doesn’t. - Promotions are seemingly given based on a mixture of time served and personal relationships, rather than merit or experience. - Wages are extremely uncompetitive based on market rates

Pros

Employee scholar program Pay Benefits are ok

Cons

The majority of the salary and hourly employees are lazy Management is a disgrace Qualifications to become a manager are based on factors other than leadership ability, technical knowledge, and the ability to bring the best out of people. There is no reason to come in and do any more than the bare minimum everyday, as you will just be given more work and those that do nothing will be left alone It’s hard to imagine that some of the engineers finished their degree, as it seems like they don’t have any engineering ability
