Pros

Provide some very high tech, life saving, life improving aerospace work My immediate manager is understanding and open to work life balance but there is always a flavor of the week idea being floated from upper management / management style seems to be let’s see what we can get to stick - reason for return to office was they need the equipment back on site.

Cons

Return to work being pushed in CR 1) Facilities are absolutely GRIMY 2) Carpets are filthy and thread bare 3) Ceiling tiles are missing and/or damaged/stained, the tiles that are in place are ill fitting 4) Office furniture is from day the company was moved out of Arthur Collins basement (and it was likely used furniture at that time) 5) Piles of abandoned equipment /boxes line the common areas 6) new this year, they have taken self checkout to a new level with sand/salt buckets so employees can salt/sand their way to their vehicles safely.

Pros

Excellent management and people at individual site locations and groups. Great product, pushing the limits of technology. Excellent chance to work with OEM's and airlines to further improve products.

Cons

Upper leadership is out of touch with the organization. Recent layoffs, freeze in indirect hiring, halt of incentive program and promotions, and return to office policy (only a year after promoting "workplace of the future" hybrid and remote work). This has led to attrition (in addition to layoffs) that only further strains the organization. Leadership is not transparent about what went wrong at a financial planning level that led to this and talks down to employees with vague and tone-deaf lip service. If things do not change at an upper leadership level, there will be further attrition and strain that will put this company in a downward spiral.

Toxic work culture

Pros

I cannot think of any.

Cons

I have found the culture to be very toxic and unproductive. The culture promotes adherence to processes and thinking outside of these boundaries is quickly eliminated. Additionally, alternative thinking is hindered by the heirarchical organization and fear of reprimand. This results in major bottlenecks and extreme effort just to fit something into existing processes. All decisions are funneled to senior engineer or manager, creating bottlenecks and additional time from (1) low amount of involvement/awareness of any individual project and (2) having to redo work because it was done differently than they would have done it. Many of the employees exude insecurity, resulting in them being negative and passive agressive. There is a strong culture of shaming people into behaving the same way as everyone else. Additionally, many delays and unneccessary work result from people trying to prove how they are smarter than everyone or can take on so much work.
