My department is in denial

Pros

I enjoy the nature of my job.

Cons

My management is telling me that portions of my employment manual are not real. When you start to succeed in the job, they raise the bar and lower your pay to minimum wage "just because we can". There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO reward in the job. Just be thankful when they use the smaller whip. You are publicly embarrassed and supervisors and managers care more about their machinery than their people. They lie about PTO, sick days, vacation days.. PTO is all they have, but the manual says different. Huge favoritism. New job postings are never mentioned or posted, but quietly mentioned to who they want. It's easier to sue the company with a class action than to get 5 minutes of an upper level managers time. They physically break their mail sorters, then at will them with no chance at unemployment benefits. Management is arrogant and consider themselves 'untouchable' by the law and top management. "Don't waste your time. Many people have tried in the past and nothing came of it". Everything is piece rate so taking a break COSTS you money.

Pros

Decent benefits, some teams are easy to work with, work from home.

Cons

Tech companies must invest and retain people to succeed. This company has cut itself off at the knees by “riffing” departments of their legacy knowledgeable staff and piling the work onto overly burdened teammates or abandoning their workloads all together so failures occur. No ownership of work is a big problem. Employees are burned out and have no work life balance. There is no reimbursement for personal development, learning conferences or CPEs so the workforce becomes stale and not motivated to learn new and creative ways to make the company products better. There is a culture of “no bonuses”, no performance pay, and there are no market alignments. Management who have been with the company a long time often make less than new employees. Company cut’s employees to pay twice as much for temps/contractors. No room for growth. The outlook for the company is poor because they won’t modernize their business, systems, processes and development designs. The more they cut budgets the more the revenue drops. Why can’t leadership see this as a trend?

Pros

If you like focusing on a task and basically being left to your own devices this job is great

Cons

Management at my location is terrible. Everyone is biased, racist, sexist, or a combination of the above. Our client likes to change protocol all the time which makes our jobs more tedious or difficult, but there is no change in our pay to compensate. Our location is focused on mail processing so if there is a day without mail delivery or just little mail, you'll be going home early, especially in winter, so forget being able to afford Christmas presents for anyone. Because the work is client specific you may gain some transferable skills, but at my location, basic skills basically everything we use on a daily basis is useless anywhere else.
