According to upper management, 99% of the management team (leads & supervisors) are promoted from the "ranks," so all training is "on the job" and you have to put in your time- regardless of your skill set. In the building as a package handler, the work is comparable to factory work. On the ramp, people are constantly concerned with being fired or demoted for making a mistake, and it is rather dangerous.

Many promotions and internal positions seem to be based more on whom you know and who knows you rather than on actual merit and efforts. Internal politics and personal agendas of ambitious, power hungry executives unfortunately seemed to be common currency at the time I was there... Many lay offs and clearly obvious job insecurity and uncertainty. Keeping and promoting talent is not a priority after seeing how some senior competent employees were laid off just to be replaced with cheaper less qualified alternatives.
