Pros

Collaborative work environment Intelligent, passionate people to work with Upper management clearly lays out direction and the reasons why we are going where we are going Folks tend to stay around, lot of tenure Company genuinely cares about employee feedback and acts on it, annual Tell Dell survey of all the employees that opt to participate holds a great deal of weight at the executive leadership level which drives behaviors through management Big company means lots of resources Excellent opportunities to grow in role as an individual contributor or move into management

Cons

Some processes are slow because its a big company Internal tools could be better in some areas

Pros

I can not see any pros to coming to Dell or the company. If you like performance appraisal, poor management and answering to rude management then perhaps take a look at Dell. The only pro is, if you get a good Sales seat, you take home very big pay. Perhaps if you are good at politics this would suit your style. The name DELL looks impressive on a CV

Cons

Where to start? Is it the thousands of people getting fired globally? Is it the absolute lack of respect for dignity and the human process? Is it the hierarchical politics that serves one or two people? Dell has slipped up and hired a handful of managers who solely car about their own paycheck. They will manage you out if you are not liked and blame you for failure even if you are good at your job. The lack of empathy and emotional intelligence in Cork is like nothing I have ever experienced before. To compress these issues, the targets are ridiculous and HR are simply a tool to make sure you can get kicked out without any chance of a legal ramification (of which are rampant in Dell europe) just google it and I am sure you wont have to look too far. I would honestly like to warn anyone of going to this company if you have any real ambition and want to make a difference or an impact. You will not be heard and you will become toxic and bitter employee who wants to write the above.

Pros

Dell is a fast paced work environment in an exciting industry. Austin is a great town with very low cost of living.

Cons

The culture at Dell is terrible. The environment is similar to the military in that people are supposed to just do what they are told without question and without thinking. It is a very top down driven company, which stifles creativity, great ideas, and even common sense business decisions. "just do what you're told" In addition, there is no respect for work life balance. Everyone is expected to work long hours and weekends---then head home and work on email. All companies demand long hours from their workers, but one major difference at Dell is that people spend all this time working on valueless activities just because some exec or manager said so. The leadership is terrible with no clear direction and strategy. The company is in a death seizure, where it is flopping from one strategy to the next. The company is controlled from the top and has hired very few good leaders and a work force that only knows how to take orders. This creates only ideas that are "me too", where Dell has become a company that only copies others---now both in process and product. The company is really broken from all sides. The infrastructure (IT, Phone, SW) has been underfunded and neglected. The workforce moral is terrible and the leadership (and pipeline) are completely inept. There is no clear process or standards for anything, which creates tons of bureaucracy and inefficiencies. I'm surprised the company is doing as well as it is. Don't be fooled by the lies and spin---it is a terrible culture and company.
