Pros

It used to be a great place to work. As previous comments have said, there were lots of reasons to be here 9 to 10 years ago but it's not much more than a job now. Most of my best managers and good friends have left for other companies and the rest of us are treated like we're a drag to the bottom line.

Cons

Because of the downsizing and lack of growth there is little to no advancement opportunities. Finance controls your compensation via quotas, which leads to very unrealistic quotas. There's little to no training unless you do it online and who has time for that when you're chasing a huge quota? The current management that's left doesn't have a clue how to manage since they were never trained and treat senior outside sales people like they're inside sales reps. Options are all but worthless and they did away with the employee stock purchase plan. Dell will not allow you to interview with vendor partners which severely limits any opportunity to better yourself unless you quit first.

Pros

Fast pacing working environment with challenging issues. Forced to learn how to deal with constant changes and, ambiguities, make quick decisions with limited information, as well as manage multiple things in parallel. You learng to work hard.

Cons

Not much sense in career path development. Management changes constantly, each with different styles, on top of different priorities the company/group has at any time, from cutting head count to building revolutionary products. Constantly receive multiple and contradicting directions from different sources. Politics has been growing very strong. What's important is not what you do but how you present and how you are perceived. Process is for the sake of having a process. People clash on one thing but leave big gap on another thing.

Pros

Austin Many people are out the door at 5 Brand recognition on the resume Remarkably good work / life balance

Cons

Extremely limited career growth. Like IBM of old, Dell employees have to wait for someone up the line to leave in order to be promoted. Recent requirements for management scope and layering mean that many people who could grow their careers in leadership opportunities cannot do so. Very constrained innovation environment. The focus on cost continues, at the expense of pleasing the customer.
