This review is for Deloitte Consulting - Strategy and Operations * Constant learning * Always working on different projects, doing new things. Great exposure to the enterprise and how everything comes together from the highest levels * Working together with a lot of smart and talented people

Cons

Cons: These cons are written from an experienced hire perspective, as someone who's joined the firm with many years of work experience: * Do not join the firm as a consultant or senior consultant if you are around 33-35 or older. It will take more from you than you'll gain from being here. And most of it is emotional scars which are difficult to foresee but leave long lasting impacts. * When you come in as an experienced hire and especially from smaller companies, they will place you at least 1 but probably 2 levels below than what you'd have in mind based on what you are doing in your current job. The partners will sweet talk you that this is ok and with all this experience you can get promoted very quickly once you outperform your peers --- In reality this doesn't work like that. When they put a mid 30s guy to compete against 27 year old fresh MBA graduates you are set up to lose --- Also you get typecast based on your title. Although you can do a manager's or senior manager's job, you will be treated as a C/SC and will be asked stuff that you may have done years ago but can't do as fast as you used to * When you get in everybody will emphasize the importance of networking. What it means is --- You will get staffed on projects only if you know somebody ---- You will get promoted only if people especially Partners/Directors/Principles or SMs who know you speak well about you during the review meeting In other words, if you are from the NY office but has worked on projects where the P/P.Ds or SMs are from other offices, they won't be talking on your behalf and all the good work you may have done will not count towards anything. --- Also building a network takes a pretty long time especially in a large firm like this. As an experienced hire you have very little chance to compete against people who join the firm as campus recruits who start as a class and build relationships amongst themselves which they carry into future. As an experienced hire, you don't have this setup. You are left to your own abilities to meet people who have influence in the firm ---- Also remember that P/P/Ds and SMs are nurturing staff who they think are good candidates to become future P/P/Ds. You make a judgement call, who they will spend more time nurturing - A younger person with many years in front of them or an experienced hire? * The key metric in this firm is your client hours. Any other type of work, like firm activities or internal groups will not count towards anything if your haven't met your client hour goals regardless how great your Performance Evaluations are. * You will be interviewed and your internal references will be checked before you get staffed in anyy project. It somebody says something negative about you you will not get staffed on that project and same managers won't call you again * This firm is very similar to a military academy or a fraternity. You have to go through the hazing process, put in your time. If you are an experienced hire over 30s, rethink your decision to join the firm. * The culture is very aggressive. No doubt the place is full of very smart and talented people but this doesn't make them good managers. You are at all times expected to kiss ass and stroke the egos of the people above. If you say once "No" to something you will not be considered for anything else again by the same person even if you have a legitimate reason. --- This also makes this firm very hierarchical. If you have a different idea than the person(s) above you and contradict them or explain where you are coming from you will be considered as defensive or not a good team player. --- Because of this extremely hierarchical structure, things get changed and modified very often because somebody above says something different. And because of the egos every person above you has an opinion of how things should be. Usually there is no upfront planning to avoid multiple iterations of the same work. You work with your manager and produce something, then his or her manager changes things completely and it goes on in this fashion. The team doesn't usually come together and talk in detail what needs to be done. Every level reacts to what you put in front of them and this creates a very inefficient process to produce something

No swipe in, No swipe out records for timing. 3. flexibility to work from home and flex timings. 4. laptop on day one. 5. you can use pen drives, HDD, carry any electronic stuff around the office 6. complete admin rights laptop given to you, you have all right to keep any data you want. 7. keep you personal data in laptop, use it as your personal laptop too. 8. If you negotiate real hard, you can end up getting good compensation while joining only. 9. They also give high joining bonus and relocation if you ask for it in negotiation 10. 30 leaves in a year as per record. 11. Good compensation and perks at onsite too. 12. Transport allowance above your salary 13. Food and transport reimbursement if they call you on weekend.

Cons

once you have read all pros you might have thought i have given bad rating by mistake. No. please continue reading. but cons below applies for Technology/ SI service line. i am not very sure about other service line please ask extensive questions directly to HR relating to the cons i am writing before you join. 1. There are policy on top of all Deloitte policy which manager and senior management quote for technology folks which overrides all Deloitte delighted policies above. 2. Though swipe in and out is not recorded you, the estimations done in project level at senior level is very bad thus pressure pushes down and working hours for everyone pulls to 12-13 hours in average. i have seen this in all the projects across SI. Every minute and hour is accounted, you will have to give status everyday of every second in some projects. if time was gone is some analysis, you will have to explain how did that analysis took that time. 3. Flex from working from home depends on project. While in some projects they do allow with lot of permissions and conditions in rare cases. In other, they do not allow at all. 4. Laptop is only given, screens or desktop is not issued. thus you might suffer from backache and they don't care. and also most of the people get 12 inches laptops and there is no choice for laptop thus you end up coding in small screen all the time and it has very bad quality display. 5. Yes, use you pendrives to copy projects, softwares, etc from you friends machine no team provides support for any installation and its your responsibility to setup your machine and moreover you will not be given extra time for that. do it in you personal time. 6. enjoy the admin rights :D. 7. compliance team will keep sending you unnecessary mail. 8. everyone i know, who did not negotiated well end up in low compensation compared to others, no joining bonus and worst is wrong designation (lower than his experience), beware HR people here lie. like one of friend was told Deloitte has no joining bonus policy while other received upto 1 lack. 9. negotiation with them very hard, they do it, you have to have another offer. 10. there are 30 days leave but they don't approve your leaves. most of the people end up loosing the leaves in the end of year and also their encashment of leave is in basic salary. 11. Deloitte gives equivalent to LCA of H1B which is bare minimum to technology people for other fields like audit, finance they go higher but they do give car rental perks extra. but remember onsite is very rare and only limited to people who stay long in organisation and become their slave for 24 hours a day. 12. while negotiating they will keep on adding transport allowance showing your salary higher but it is not mentioned in annexure of salary. but no doubt they pay in monthly salary. 13. Weekend : this is best part of Deloitte experience for technology guys, they tell you they work 5 days a week. but every friday SI folks receive a mail we will be working this weekend and you can't say no. and they do not give any comp off for that. no extra pay. only thing they will give you is food which is limited to pizza, burger, biryani. normal food is out of their budget. 14. There is barely good technology projects, most of them are transfer solutions taken from one project written ages before, you keep on modifying them. 15. you cannot say no to a project, they will allocate you a project without your consent and without asking your aspirations, project manager will not even bother to welcome you to project in many cases, go and start working. 16. other than achieving your daily project tasks which will not be less than 10 hours work, there is mandatory 48 hours of english training + 40 hours of other domain training + min 40+ hours of activities which needs to completed. 17. And the best part : in mumbai office, folks do not have place to sit. so you can sit anywhere at your friends desk when he is on leave. borrow meeting rooms chair and sit in middle of desk anywhere but complete your work. Enjoy Deloitte......
