Pros

An excellent place to launch your career. In today's conditions DB is actually doing alright. Good name, good programs for interns and first year grads. If you received your offer after an internship, you'll be placed in a rotational program for a bit. At the end you'll get to decide what group you liked the most. There are plenty of opportunities to advance to middle management.

Cons

The atmosphere seems too "political". People in middle management are simply stuck in middle management. Everyone in the upper management tier was either someone they brought in from Goldman or some other bank, or they were from the UK. Very few of the Directors and MD's that I've met and worked with rose up through the ranks within DB itself. I don't know if this is true for all divisions. Makes you think you have no future there beyond being a VP.

Pros

You will have a job if u put a lot of effort beyond regular hours. Reasonable pay and benefits. Part of a larger firm and brand.

Cons

You are stuck at middle management..you should know the right people to move to senior management...it doesnt matter if u are talented..or work hard or have great ideas and knowledge. senior management works like a political world rather than a performance and result oriented world. Middle management and senior management positions are more driven by politics, regionalism (U.K employees get more promotions than U.S employees just because they are the middlemen between germany and U.S..and they dictate the terms) and favoritism... -In townhalls you hear something and what management later do is totally different. It is good to join this firm if you are starting your career. But once you reach middle management, you have few options..being in U.S you are always part of a branch office and your growth is very limited..(that's what i saw in my case and almost anyone i know after spending around 10 years at the firm)
