Pros

Benefits i guess and being able to work from home.

Cons

Everything from the top down as other reviews have posted about management and team leads. From the time i started with Discover to search for a better career path i quickly realized the mistake i had made by joining this company. The training i had was beyond confusing and their was a lot of miscommunication from the trainers and team leads who barely know the answer themselves. A lot of the time the TL’s are never working. They are always taking care of personal things on company time. “I hve to leave early today” like every day never there to support or grow or coach you like they claim they are there to be. They claim you can move up quickly at the company as a lot of people love sharing their story on how they made it. However its not as easy or as quick as they make it seem. Coming into this role over qualified i thought they would quickly notice my potential and ambitions but it goes unnoticed especially when I’m there answering questions and helping colleagues get the right answer. When excuses from management are, “sorry I’ve been busy today”. “Busy” should not be a word in your vocabulary as a people leader

Pros

They handled COVID really well. We were sent home with the equipment that we needed in addition to some money for a desk/chair if we needed one. They also helped pay for home internet so we could do our job. I loved all of my Team Leads and Coaches while I was there.

Cons

The pay is the reason that I left. It is pretty good and a lot better than some other companies in the area (financial and call center) but it isn't a livable wage with a family. I had to work two jobs and when I got offered a better job with a livable wage I left.

Pros

Nice PTO, 401k match, tuition reimbursement and overall benefits are good. Year end bonus is also good but at risk as a portion of it is tired to company performance. However they have paid at target bonus level in the last few years.

Cons

There is very little opportunity for growth especially in IT. Upper management comes up with new initiatives every few years and creates lot of hype and confusion in the process rather than solving real problems. There are too many VPs and Directors that come from project management background. They don’t seem to understand how to run an engineering organization. Some of them probably spent their entire careers at discover and don’t have any other exposure. There are some really good leaders too, it just depends on which team you are working. Only promotions over the last year have been at the upper management level. Lot of people are leaving for better opportunities and it’s really sad to see talented people leave.
