Pros

Not much, other than the fact that you train up on your technical skills and exposure to a variety of industries and companies. In addition, many MNCs do look for Big 4 candidates especially in the Finance role.

Cons

- low pay at associate to senior level - OT culture (very common in Big 4, I know even before I joined but you really see emails flying around at 2/3/4am) - to add on to OT culture, my first year I worked from 9am to 5am, grab home wash up, rest 2h and came back to work, REPEAT X5-6 TIMES A WEEK) - toxic culture (seniors and managers are not appreciative of your work, they take the extra effort and work you put in for granted) - adding on to toxic culture: personal experience with toxic seniors that sent you extremely long emails just to criticise you and put you down, the kind where you go into office in the morning with a happy mood and when you see the email from senior, your whole day is ruined - my own experience with line manager: my LM has never talked to me, even for feedback sessions, except for my last day in EY. To be very honest, a good manager is important in your first few years of career

Pros

Opportunities for international secondment on short term assignments. Reasonably good payscales. Good place for relatively junior people who are just beginning their careers to see how a large consulting firm thinks.

Cons

Tons of things are wrong with this company. It just borrows the EY brand name but beyond that is run like a typical lala shop by the two partners. Impractical targets are set. Those who do not perform or are seen as questioning the policies are given a PIP and asked to leave. A group of people close to the senior management is allowed a lot of freedom in decision making but beyond this group, allunfair means are used to judge people subjectively. Those who question the authority of the partners are either subjected to ridicule and public humiliation or ignored completely during the appraisal process. The hopeless HR team has no powers over anything and are happy being mute spectators. Favoritism is so rampant, folks take it as given. The senior global leaders have no idea or simply don't care how this place is being run or how the EY brand is being misused. A real toxic culture.

Not a pleasant work environment

Pros

You may get decent client exposure depending on your position and your team's willingness to let you have contact with clients

Cons

1. Don't be fooled by the firm's "global image"; it is very much a Singaporean firm run by Singaporeans with your typical Singaporean work culture. Expect selfish people who will look after themselves first or blame you just to avoid any blame themselves. 2. Politics, favourtism are common. People will treat partners differently from how they treat associates (i.e. as inferior beings) 3. You will be expected to produce as much as you can while having as little resources as possible, such as budgeted time for jobs. 4. EY prides itself on its time-off-in-lieu system but depending on your schedule, you may not be able to clear all the time-off that you have accumulated. 4. In tax, expect inefficient, unintuitive processes which you are somehow supposed to be totally familiar with despite being a newcomer and which you are supposed to follow, just because "we've been doing it this way since 50 years ago". Very old-fashioned mindset prevalent, especially among management. 5. You will be treated as a worker more than a person. People prioritise their targets over you.
