Pros
If you want a job where you are always busy this is for you! Also a plus if you find working out fun; every shift is a work out. Great pay. Great Benefits.
Cons
No chance to climb the corporate ladder, they hire outside the company for higher paying jobs (MIT, DM etc.) No consistency with hours, or pay. As a shift manager (assistant manager) you will be paid only when you show up on the schedule as a manager- often time expecting to do manager job while getting paid significantly less. Often safety is an issue with large sums of cash on hand and minimal staff in the store, sometimes only you if someone is on break. You will be pushed to your limits mentally and physically and you will develop back problems if continued in this work place- extreme lifting and refusal to provide back braces or the ability to wear them. Extreme biased in hiring. Any one older than 30 will not be hired.
