They say that you can work 8 hours but most of the jobs force you to accept 9 hours a day, they pay the hour but is not worthy, because it is not paid as extra hour at a different rate. if you are working for a client you are a contractor so you cannot growth there, you will always remain in the same position and you need to wait a year and a half to ask your company to find something different but in software there is no career path to find a promotion, since they cannot live a client to give you a promotion on other one. this doesn't happens
