Pros

The best thing there for me was the quality of the people around me. With that said, upper management often was disconnected. The 401k 6% match with immediate vesting was also very good. Depending on which group you're in, work life balance can be good as well.

Cons

Commercial banking is in decline with relocations and outsourcing being performed. Wages also aren't going up. Even with a promotion, you won't get paid more. This isn't a Citibank problem exclusively though, the banking industry is changing. Lots of senior people continue to work there just so that they can hold on to their pension, otherwise, they would've jumped ship already. There is no longer a pension for junior analysts, so with no retention incentives, there is high turnover.

Pros

Hybrid schedule, supportive managers, opportunities

Cons

Once you’re in, comp basically plateaus. Layoffs are happening across the board, which tends to be the full-time culture of citi. The vibe is very much “run lean” until something actually breaks, and only then consider adding headcount. You have to be intentional about protecting your work-life balance, because the implicit expectation is that you’re always on—24/7, 365—without the support of a properly staffed team.
