Pros

I came into this job only having ever volunteered for political campaigns. I had no sales experience. Everything was taught to me starting on day one. If I said I didn't understand something it was immediately explained to you in greater detail the next day. The team was small when I just joined, only 5 people. Now there are about 12 of us on staff. In less than three months on staff I was offered a promotion to field manager which came with a $2/hr raise. I think the lead director Vanessa has a strong vision for the team and is doing a lot to make sure that we don't have growing pains. -Management is caring and spends a lot of time working with the canvassers. -There is an hour of training every day, more for new employees. If you are able to vocalize what kind of help you need it's available to you. - The commission is one month's pay for every subscriber you bring in. It is possible to end up with hundreds of dollars in addition to your base pay. - There is a staff night every week which I think helps with morale - Working for a nonprofit (NPR and PBS) means that you are working for a lot of goodhearted people, the staff is very nice and there is usually very little drama.

Cons

-You have to work outside in all kinds of weather, this is primarily an outdoor job. - You cannot take a half-day. You can take off any day (without pay) that you schedule in advance but you cannot leave mid-shift. - There is next to no interaction with upper management outside of your program manager who visits once a month.

Pros

Fun laid-back work environment. Working for a good cause and helping make an impact in the community.

Cons

Door-to-door canvassing in the winter is pretty miserable.

Pros

Good money for what it is! I enjoyed working outside and meeting new people every single day.

Cons

Hours are tough. Upper management ranges from incompetent to downright malignant. In weekly all-director meetings, canvassers (i.e. the people who actually make this company run) are talked about in abhorrently demeaning terms. Turn over rate is insane and the company has zero will to fix this, which leads to an unstable-feeling work environment. The only people who are treated with any sort of respect at all are the brass in Denver.
