Pros

The staff are the most loyal people you will probably ever work alongside.

Cons

Micromanaged by Area Manager. Have to email on a morning to say you're in the building. Have to send pictures to say the store is in a good place. Can't manage your own team. Need to take someone to disciplinary? Ask your AM and watch him chicken out and avoid the situation. Store Managers are just glorified shelf fillers. Can't manage your own team. Get asked to cover when you're on a week off. WhatsApp groups start pinging at around 7am. And God forbid if you don't answer. AMs are sneaky. Don't tell you anything. Company expect you to run a Store seeing absolutely NO figures at all. Shrinkage result? Count the full store every THREE weeks and we'll tell you a result but won't tell you where you're missing it from. Wages? Ohhh, run the store 1 on 1 ALL day trying to throw a delivery out, manage the day to day goings on and cover the tills. Absolutely horrific. Store managers are miserable. No wonder when they're not Managers. AMs would not be able to get a job elsewhere as an AM because they're doing the job of an SM. What Store Manager in any other company Can't look at their own store figures on a day to day basis? Completely behind the times. Needs revamping.

Cons

Micro management I’ve never experienced in 10 years of retail management. They’re living in the stone ages in terms of technology. Hourly staff get paid to 15 mins so upper management will try and shaft your pay in the name of prod, no clock in/out machine so you’re reliant on managers clocking you accurately. Everything they do is just weird and backwards. They don’t believe in employee law, 11 hour rest period being the big one.
