Pros

I took a job in Lidl as a total break from my previous job which was in customer service, office based. I have to say in some ways I enjoy the job as there is no stress and it's not rocket science. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is positive. I meet customers all the time and 99% of them are lovely. I get a 10% staff discount and the store is open long hours so it is possible to work around other commitments.

Cons

Having said that though, the monotony of being sat on a checkout on a ten hour shift with only a 30m break is a killer. If you could die of boredom I'd be dead. The shifts for a part timer are all over the place and this makes it difficult to plan anything in advance. My store appear to have their staff slotted into roles - checkouts, bakery, chiller etc when they should be offering more variety so everyone gets to do everything to stop the rot. Despite them sayin gstarting wage is 8.45 to 9.something,if you are new to retail you WILL start on the lower advertised wage and even if you have a lot of experience you will also start on the lower wage. I have no idea if or when this is likely to increase.
