Pros

I started my career with lidl 6 years ago as a store assistant with no previous retail experience. Within 3 months i was training to be a duty manager. I was always told if i work hard and show how much i want a career out of this, then progression will happen. Within 3 years i was promoted to deputy manager, taking me to salary wage, and offering further security in my life..With excellent levels of training provided i have now moved up to store manager level..In 6 years this company has taken me from bottom to top at store level..I have no degree, no friends in high places ..it was just hard work and dedication that got me to this position..The negative comments aimed at my company are usually from the same individuals that show no passion or effort when in store..

Cons

It can be tough in stores at times as our reputation as a retailer is always increasing, meaning standards must be lifted to match this attention.

Pros

Benefits are excellent, most people at the peer level are great. Clear performance expectations. Decent cross functional communication

Cons

Company leadership very European and doesn't quite understand the American consumer even after being in the US so long. Unreasonable expectations are the norm. No upward mobility unless you are European or speak fluent German.
