Pros
- Staff Discount - The 20% discount is probably the best part of working there, although even after the discount, it would probably be cheaper shopping elsewhere considering the price of some items. - Spotlight & Employee of the Month awards - Being nominated for either of these wins you a small prize, - Choose from small gadgets, perfume/aftershave or M&S vouchers - Social - Some staff are really nice people and regular customers enjoy engaging with the staff. - Plan A scheme to recycle almost all waste so that nothing goes to landfill.
Cons
- Poorly managed - Very clique-y - Severe lack of discipline for employees who fail to carry out simple tasks leaving the real workers to do their job as well. - Managers rarely around when they are needed - New management are sour faced - Extreme double-standards - One person can do something they shouldn't, whilst others are disciplined for the same thing. - Unpaid breaks - 45 Minutes unpaid break for 8+ hour shift - 30 Minutes unpaid break for 8 hour shift - 15 Minutes unpaid break for 6 hour shift - Horrendous uniform - You may be forced to move department and change your contract - If another department is understaffed, they often pull staff from different departments to help out. (No choice) - The amount of perfectly consumable food and drinks that must be thrown in the bin because of a packaging issue is shocking! - No scheme where staff can buy these items, even at a reduced price. - Must be disposed of and anyone caught taking items that have been "wasted" would be disciplined. - For such a reputable company, the pay isn't that great for all the running around you need to do and rudeness from customers and staff you are subjected to daily. - Inadequate time allocated for almost every task - Mind numbingly boring at times. - Checking the expiry date of every item in an aisle - Very low staff morale which results in poor customer service
