Horrible business practices - Client Success Representative Meltwater Employee Review

Pros

I was able to negotiate a higher salary at my new company due to the insanely large portfolio I had to manage. I got to go on some amazing trips to exotic locations that I wouldn’t have ordinarily gone to. My colleagues were really cool at after hour events. Except for the sociopaths.

Cons

I held off writing a review so far but I recently found out that a manager who personally victimized me during my career at Meltwater was promoted to a senior management position in DC and I had to speak up. This person intimidated me and our team through verbal harassment and unwanted physical advances. I was told when I left that HR was dealing with this appropriately but, in true Meltwater fashion, they went back on their word. If you are considering Meltwater, the first thing I will tell you is that there are monthly sales quotas, even in Client Success. If you’re still interested, then keep reading. Team events are frequent and mandatory, as is attendance in the office. You functionally cannot book PTO for half of every month due to closing week and other mandatory events. You have no flexibility to schedule a doctor’s appointment. Book it at 8am or on your 1 hour lunch break, from noon to 1. If you're a minute late, you’ll get a text from your manager asking where you are. If you have chronic medical issues, you can't work here. Team events are drinking focused so expect to be out partying past midnight and be fresh as a daisy next morning. Promotions are held over your head as a carrot to keep you less focused on the cattiness and petty office drama and if you question leadership your promotion opportunities are threatened. Drinking events are necessary to advance your career by getting sloppy drunk with management. These events are opportunities for management to physically intimidate staff; in my time at Meltwater I saw both male and female mangers harass male and female coworkers. This pattern of behavior is supported from the top down. The music is loud, and it never stops. You’ll hate even your favorite song after hearing it at top volume over ringing phones every morning for a week. Prepare to be micromanaged to death. Every single email I sent was picked apart and re-written to sound more like the “Meltwater way.”; I'm an English major. You can’t even take a personal call about a sick relative without prying eyes asking why you had to step away for a moment; if your mom drops dead you better bury her on a weekend. Long story short: RUN

Thanks for your review, and sorry to hear you feel this way about your time at Meltwater. Leadership, managers and HR are here to listen to employees concerns and we take that very seriously. We also have short and long term disability options for illness or other matters. We apologize if this wasn't presented to you during your time at Meltwater and wish you the best of luck moving forward.

Pros

The product is cool and if properly onboarded customers will get value from it. Coworkers are fairly social If you are new to sales would be a good place to learn the basics

Cons

Probably the cheapest company I have ever worked for. Benefits are below standard, they changed the commission plan every year I was there so that you would make less money, and you are expected to share hotel rooms when you travel. Look up Meltwater on Reddit or LinkedIn. They are known for very aggressive sales tactics which you will be forced to implement on your customers. A culture of micromanagement that comes from the top down. Virtually no avenue for promotion unless you are willing to move or get lucky and someone leaves.
