Company with No Integrity, Shady Corporate Practices, and Mediocre Product - Sales Consultant Meltwater Employee Review

Pros

My experience is with the client acquisition or "sales consultant" role in which they provide a great training program if you are new to sales. Once you start, if you work nonstop (which they will make you) and you're really good you can make a lot of money. They also love to have a good time and throw very fun office/corporate events.

Cons

On February 23 I was asked to write a great review on here and then harassed until I showed them I had done so (another reviewer noticed this and pointed out in their review how the positive reviews are around Feb 20-25). It is no coincidence. This kind of pressure and passive aggressive environment is the norm. Management is incredibly shady in their policies and the way the teams are run. One example - you are paid hourly yet they wont let you submit overtime hours (saying its in your benefit because of the commission pay structure). Management encourages and teaches deceiving sales practices such as telling a client clicking an order form "just locks in the discount", lying about the product such as number of media contacts in our database and the bounce rate. Telling them all data goes back to 2009 when only part of it does. At the end of the day they will have you say whatever and do whatever high pressure, pushy sales tactic to close. The company has a terrible reputation and you are told frequently by prior clients and other people you contact that they want nothing to do with Meltwater (no matter how sweet you sound). I honestly feel badly about some vulnerable people who they had me convince to buy additional products they didn't really need since "it was such a good discount" and "we're raising our pricing soon if you want it in the future". Lastly, there is no work/life balance if you are on the client acquisition side and they will make you feel horrible and fire you pretty quickly if you don't do whatever to hit that quota (thankfully never missed a quota).

Pros

The product is cool and if properly onboarded customers will get value from it. Coworkers are fairly social If you are new to sales would be a good place to learn the basics

Cons

Probably the cheapest company I have ever worked for. Benefits are below standard, they changed the commission plan every year I was there so that you would make less money, and you are expected to share hotel rooms when you travel. Look up Meltwater on Reddit or LinkedIn. They are known for very aggressive sales tactics which you will be forced to implement on your customers. A culture of micromanagement that comes from the top down. Virtually no avenue for promotion unless you are willing to move or get lucky and someone leaves.
