Pros

1) The networking hardware products and the cloud managed networking solution are very innovative, market leading and intuitive. This is very awesome and enjoyable to sell. I love it! You don’t have to be a networking certified expert to sell this and customers love Meraki! 2) You’re reasonably autonomous in managing your territory and manage various contacts with both end customers as well as channel partners. No extensive pipeline reviews every week. 3) Start up feel(which is fading away, see cons) with the backing of a big name as Cisco. 4) Massive growth in terms of business revenue and employees being hired. 5) Fun and cool team events.

Cons

Founders have now left and Cisco is putting their stamp on Meraki. There is an explosion in hiring which is a good sign, but the current office is cramped and a lot of territories are being split rapidly with larger quotas meaning you have to do the same large quarterly quota with a much smaller territory to sell into. Where over achievement used to be the standard now for most of the sales reps over achievement let alone achievement of quotas have become very hard. Huge emphasis on quarterly targets rather than yearly, no room at all for hiccups. To make it even more challenging, quarterly targets are changing and increasing every quarter. Quotas should be also distributed more fairly among team members. Looks can be deceiving; they’ll start you on a low quota(you’ll overachieve that easily) and then it kicks in very ugly... Promotion: because of the growth you have options to move internally in the company, but promotion here isn't always necessarily based only on performance, experience or loyalty in years with the company... So it can be a great opportunity, but it can also leave a bad taste.

Pros

If you are early in career or transitioning, the NSE role is great way to get your feet wet with networking. You have opportunities to learn more in other IT domains as well but not as intensely. When you are off, you are off. No being on call. There are tons of resources and opportunity for you to train and learn. The benefits are some of the best. If you work near a Meraki office, take the opportunity to go, it is worth it. The San Franciso office is the best. There is plenty of documentation public and internal facing. There is a process for handling cases that have no documentation which is very nice. You are not alone on this job ever.

Cons

Being an NSE day to day can become tedious. Most customers are fine, but you will eventually run into one that is difficult to work with. Everything is based on your stats like talk time and customer satisfaction which can be problematic at times. I left because there were no opportunities to move on to a different role. Cisco proper is pulling in the reigns tightly on Meraki, so the culture is changing not for the better. Being in the call queue all day can be tedious especially when it gets backed up and you do not get your scheduled down time. In the US you will have to work weekends occasionally unless you get someone to cover which is becoming harder and harder due to change in overtime policies.
