Pros
Stable paycheck was a pro for me.
Cons
Not merit based; you can get stationed in an awful base and have no chance of success, and there's nothing you can do about it; good assignments are based on who you know; it's very political; the military justice system is run by the least experienced JAGs, so many of the trials are meritless.
